Accident Insurance and Personal
Effects. You can also buy single
types or even some combinations, such
as Non Medical. You can view the
Policy

What is Covered?
RBC Insurance provides coverage for
up to 46
different items in their Deluxe
Package.
What about the Impact of Travel
Advisories?
The Government of Canada offers information for
international travellers at voyage.gc.ca
At the top of the web page you can select a country
from the drop down box and get the latest Travel Report and Warnings.
Section 4 is the one I use the most, but I also look for travel warnings above the second level.
Insurance won't cover anything past that...ie http://www.voyage.gc.ca/countries_pays/report_rapport-eng.asp?id=79000 for Egypt is at level 3. That means RBC won't even cover death of a family member prior to departure if this warning is on before they buy
insurance.
Doesn't My Credit Card Already Provide All the
Coverage I Need?
It might. Credit
card companies often cover Check with
your credit card company
directly. Check with RBC for a
summary of what
most credit credit card companies have
been covering, but check directly
with your credit card company for the
most up to date information.
What Age Restrictions Apply?
RBC Policies have different rates for ages
under 60, 74 and 80 for medical insurance. A medical form may
need to be completed based on age, pre-existing conditions and type
of policy.
Doesn't BC Medical Cover Me Outside of Canada?
Not in any way that is near to sufficient. BC
Medical will reimburse at the schedule of rates for BC and not for the
country you are visiting. A broken leg during a ski accident could
cost thousands of dollars in the US and BC Medical would only cover
several hundred. You would be personally liable for the difference
and would have trouble getting approved for treatment in the US.
Why would I need Trip Cancellation or
Interruption? Can't I just get a refund myself if I cancel?
Most airfares are non refundable, but might allow a
credit for future flights if you cancel or charge a rebooking fee.
Most cruise lines do not offer a refund at a deadline set days or months
before the sailing date. If you cancel for an illness or return
early from your vacation, you risk paying for a vacation you didn't take
and even paying extra to return early.
Can I Buy Medical Coverage without Trip Cancellation
& Delay?
Yes, RBC offers Classic
Medical - Under 60 and TravelCare
Medical - Age 60 +. If you are under age 60: pre-existing conditions are covered if they have been stable for at least 90 days before your policy's effective date.
If you are over 60 +, you will need to
complete a one
page medical questionaire to
determine your category below. If you are under 85 years of age and choose not to complete the medical questionnaire, you are automatically placed into the Bronze
category. There is also a printable
version of the questionnaire which
can be completed and used to determine
the totals necessary to obtain a
quote.
