Things to see and do in Quito:
- Independence Plaza (Plaza Grande) including the Cathedral of Quito, the Government's Palace,
the President's Palace and the Archbishop's Palace
- Monastery & Church of San Francisco at San Francisco Plaza
- Basilica del Voto National
- El Sagrario Church
- Church of Santa Domingo
- The Church of the Society of Jesus, also known as La Compañía
- La Mitad del Mundo - equator marker (Middle of the World) located 15
miles north of Quito. Walk 10 minutes from the monuments to the actual
marker where you can pay $3 for the Museo Solar Inti Nan museum
experience, which is a highlight of the trip. Museum experiments
include balancing an egg on a nail and watching water go down a drain
without any spin. The caldera nearby is impressive too.
You can cab to La Mitad for about $15US one way or take a local bus
for less than $1.

way and they will wait for you while you hike to the refugio or
